  • Increasing Pageviews in WordPress: Next Page Please

The other day, a friend who I am helping to set up a wordpress blog, asked me how he could split up a long blog post into more than one page.

I immediately thought to myself. “Wow. I bet a person could double, or even triple their ad revenue by having this feature on a blog.”

If you think about it, long posts in wordpress are kind of a waste of space when it comes to advertising. I mean, you can put an adsense unit at the beginning, and one at the end, but you have all this space in between that is just great content that is not being used to it’s potential.

Not to say that you couldn’t put long skyscraper adsense units along either side of the page template, but we all know how low the click through rate is for those ads. It’s pretty terrible compared to an ad unit that is blended in with the content. Not only that, but it also looks kind of desperate to have that many ads on one page.

It’s the same story with an ad unit at the end of the post. The click through rate just doesn’t compare to the ad at the beginning of the content.

Some people prefer to use a large rectangle ad unit, but I prefer a small one as seen above.

You can also tenfold your incomes by putting every paragraph onto separate page. :)

People (imho) like to read the whole article. Breaking the page down too much may cause your traffic will go down.

I run a site hosted by blogger.com and I would very much like to blend my ads as part of the content - but every time I’ve tried this, the ads just dont’ show up - does anyone know how to get around this problem?
