VOTRs.com Makes Social Bookmarking a Little Easier

My new IM buddy Dan Zarella recently shared his new project VOTRs with me. At first glance, I thought, “Cool! That looks like it would be really useful.”
But since I haven’t been bookmarking very much lately, I didn’t get a chance to use it until about a week later. I decided to try it out on used it on my last post on this site, How to Survive Digg on a Shared Host. That article actually went popular on Digg, but then got buried immediately. But I digress.
Let me show you how VOTRS works.
Submit your URL:

This is easy, and the cool thing about it is that you don’t have to submit to the 6 social bookmarking sites first. The tool creates buttons (see image below) for each of the six SB sites, that give the option of either voting or submitting a story.
Votrs then gives you a shortened url, that looks like this …
http://votrs.com/1735a4e8
…which leads to this page, that conveniently displays buttons for voting and submitting, all in one place.

Things I like about VOTRs:
- No need to clutter your site with a bunch of social bookmarking buttons
- URL is short and easy to share. (“Hey guys, vote for my latest article! http://votrs.com/1735a4e8 )”
- Best of all is that since there are multiple options on the VOTRs page, if your article doesn’t do well in one SB site, it still has a good chance of doing well in others. For example, even though my article was buried the second it made the front page of Digg (Ridiculous), It still did relatively well in Stumbleupon and Sphinn.

In the past, I have used OnlyWire (http://www.onlywire.com/) but it has not been very successful with my sites.. anyway, I will try VOTRs and I’ll see…
