Using Google Alerts to Track Progress

The main thing I use Google Alerts for is to keep track of who is mentionaing seologs.com. Its also great to know when a page gets indexed by Google. So as new pages that have your Google Alert queries get indexed, you get an alert.

Here’s how to set it up.

First, if you don’t have one yet, you’ll need to sign up for a Google account. Go to Google.com, click on Personal Home, and sign in.

Once in, go to My Account and then go to Google Alerts.

Here are the alerts I have set up.

Search terms Type How often
link:www.seologs.com News & Web as it happens
site:www.seologs.com News & Web as it happens
seo logs News & Web as it happens
seologs News & Web as it happens

So with seologs, seo logs, and link:www.seologs.com (won’t happen much because Google only updates every 3 months or so), whenever someone links to, or mentions the site, I get an alert.

Also with site:www.seologs.com, whenever a new page is indexed, I get an alert.

If you have any other cool ways to use Google alerts, leave a comment!
