SES Pre-Conference Post

Train To NYCI left the Amtrak train station in Amherst, MA at around 2PM today, headed for NYC for Search Engine Strategies. The train ride was about 5 hours (about 2 hours slower than by car), but being able to read, work, and access the internet totally made up for the slow ride.

I arrived in Manhattan (Penn Station) at around 7PM tonight, and took a cab to the New York Hilton, where I’m staying.

I have been extremely surprised at how well my $6/ month wireless internet has been working. It’s only meant to be used on my cell phone, but It wasn’t too hard to get it working via the Bluetooth connection on my laptop. I actually wrote a tutorial on how to do this (Bluetooth + Cellphone + Laptop = Wireless Internet for under $6/month). This beats paying $50 – $70 per week for the Hilton’s mediocre wifi connection.

So the conference begins tomorrow, and I still don’t really know what to expect. I’m still not sure which sessions I’ll be attending for day 1 (Apr 10th), but for day 2, Wednesday the 11th, Earning Money From Contextual Ads (3:15pm – 4:30pm) and Contextual Ads & AdSense Clinic (4:45pm – 6:00pm) both look good. I’ll attend at least one of them, if not both. Also, Sitemaps & URL Submission (10:30am – 12:00pm) looks like another one I will probably attend.

Otherwise, I’ll be winging it pretty hard core. I’ll post an update tomorrow about which sessions I attended.
