Shame on DMOZ

If you guys haven’t seen “>the latest post over at Shoemoney.com Blog, take a look.
A while back I got a email from a guy claiming to be a DMOZ editor saying that I had to pay him $5,000.00 or he would have my site: shoemoney.com removed from the dmoz.
Well, it turned out that guy was for real, and actually removed the listing.
What the crap! This aging web 1.0 relic called DMOZ needs to die already.
What the idiot editor doesn’t realize, is that removing Jeremy’s site probably isn’t going to hurt his rankings at all. That one link from DMOZ is pretty much insignificant when compared to the 88,000+ links from other sites.
And to all of you site owners who are still desperately waiting to get into the DMOZ directory: Give it up! DMOZ is not a magic SEO solution. A few years ago, maybe, but these days, getting into DMOZ is not even worth the time it takes to submit your site. I would suggest that you spend your time coming up with interesting and unique content for your sites.

This is ridiculous. I don’t know why google still trusts dmoz. I read stuff like this has happened before and with all this being public now, one will hope that it’s the start of dmoz’s fall.

Here is the simple truth.
Shoemoney offered to pay money for an ODP listing. The ODP considers this to be a bribe offer. Sites whose owners offer bribes are denied listing in the directory as a matter of policy. This is longstanding and has been discussed in many dmoz related forums. The site was listed briefly, but was taken down in accordance with policy months before Shoemoney’s post in his blog. AOL staff has requested that Shoemoney share the extortion email with them so they can investigate the situation.
Dmoz takes accusations of abuse very seriously. If the email is found to have originated from an editor, I have no doubt that editor will be removed.

DMOZ should just pack it in. It is such a waste of space. And now to have proof of corruption? Shut ‘er down.

I think with large organisations depending on a large number of volunteers there’s always going to be a small percentage of people trying to cash in. Unfortunately many people are desperate to get listed.. All in all I think 99.9% of the editors are respectable.

None of my sites are listed in the DMOZ and I don’t care. Your right that its a load of you know what!!!
Relying one person to say if you get listed or not..
I got indexed by all the major search engines and they still haven’t listed my sites…
Just a quick suggestion..Maybe they should pay thier workers?
You know the old saying, you get what you pay for…Of course the poor fellow needs $5,000 because he is over doing it for free and wants his cut!!! LOL

I’ve submitted my site, http://www.BestManagementArticles.com, to DMOZ more than a year ago and it still is not listed there.
Meantime, my other link building strategies have resulted in page 1 ranking for my main key phrases: business articles, management articles, free business articles, free management articles, etc.
So who needs DMOZ?
