  • My Experience With PRWeb

To be honest, I have only submitted a press release once, and I used PRWeb. It was for my Fake Pagerank Detection Tool. Submitting it was more of an experiment than an attempt to get traffic. I rushed through the process pretty quickly. (Link to the PRWeb Release)

PRWeb offers several types of press releases that can cost anywhere from $30 on up to $1000 (maybe more). I think I paid $30 for mine and got pretty limited distribution. The more you pay, the wider and more high profile the distribution. I couldn’t really say exactly how well my option worked, but I’m sure there was some positive effect.

If I was going to do it again, I would spend a lot more time on writing. I mean a lot. Especially on the title and the intro paragraph. Of course the body of the release is important too and needs to include contact info or links to your site, but the title and description is what’s going to grab people’s attention.

I think a good place to look for inspiration would be Digg.com. Study the titles and descriptions of the stories that get dugg, and compare them to those that don’t get dugg. Its going to be the same kind of thing with a press release. The quality of your title and description decides whether a reader passes up your release, or has their interest peaked and reads further.

The moral of the story is: If you are going to dish out the cash for a PR, then you need to make sure that it is good. Otherwise, you are wasting your money.
