  • Spammer for a Day (Don’t Hate Me)

The other day I got an email at work, marked as spam, from myself, with no subject line, and for some reason I opened it:

we email advertise your charity web site to 7,500,000 people. free.

    http://www.emailsolutioncorp.com

So I went there, and the site is a mess, but the text is persuasive enough, though obviously spam. Doing a little digging about the company shows us that this company is truly one of the most hated spam operators.

Now I’ve heard that the reason spam is so prolific is that it costs so little and has a high return rate. Is this true? I decided to find out for myself and tomorrow will, through this company, for only $279, be sending out 20,000,000 spam emails (for one of my online businesses that isn’t doing well and may actually benefit by such marketing if it works after all). Will I be rich?

The email won’t be in any way offensive and will actually be promoting a legitimately useful service, but I expect it may very well destroy my business in the end. Either way I’ll be a spammer for a day. So, I apologize in advance.

By the way, I’m David, a friend of Badi’s from Charleston, South Carolina, and I hope that my posts will be of benefit to this blog.

Badi and I went to the same graduate school (though I graduated a few years before him), and I’ve been doing Web sites and online marketing for law firms (mostly for mesothelioma (two top 10 sites on Google)) and real estate agents for over six years. Though I’ve been making a great living doing so, my new goal is to be a stereotypical “dot com millionaire”, or at least financially independent. I have a few online businesses, and financial freedom seems to always be just around the corner.

So, I’ll let you know how that spam email campaign goes.

I too have been receiving emails from these spammers, but would be interested to know if they actually do help to make you some money.

Good luck towards your goal :)

Wow. 20 million? Even if only 0.01% converts, that’s 2000 conversions for $279.

I definitely look forward to hearing the part 2 of this.

Yeah, but I’d be surprised if it is that high (though quite plesantly surprised). I expect that many of the emails they’re going to send to will be guessed.

The email still hasn’t been sent out. At this point, I’m hoping they wait until Monday or Tuesday. Many people are leaving early for the holiday weekend. I’ll keep you posted.

      And no, no penis pills.

Well, do i hate this email advertising company? Daily, and i mean DAILY i get some 5 to 6 (same as mentioned above) emails in my inbox. And always i say onething to myself when i see this mail.
I say “let me get my hands on you spammer and see how many pieces i will parts i will tear you in. It will definitely be more than 7,500,000
Well, email advertising is not bad, but consider this, for exapmple i have 70 websites all with different mailing address but all being forwarded at my primary mailing address. :( Now what you have here is 70 webmaster’s email address. You are sending it to 70 webmasters…that’s what you think. Here, at my side, i get 70 junk mails :( Gross! Why would someone ever think they will be raed :( This is pathetic.
E-mail advertising is good to a limit. More than that, it’s a toture. :(

Was there an outcome to this?

Quick update. I was getting several (~5 - 12) visits a day before my ISP emailed me and threatened to shut me down. So I called it off with a couple days to go on the three week campaign.

I got no sales, though. I blame that on the emails being completely non-targeted. So, in my experience, spamming does not work, and no, I will never do that again. (That is, unless I go into the Viagra/penis enlargement business.)

20,000,000 emails. Some traffic. No sales. Don’t waste your money.

      Worth the experience, though.
