Got an iPhone Yet?

I picked up an iPhone this weekend (finally!). After hearing people complain about all the features the iPhone is lacking, and how much better other phones are.
I was hearing lots of complaints about “No 3G”. Do people even know that there aren’t a lot of cities that even offer 3G service? For my city, AT&T doesn’t even have a definite date for when we will get it.
I just can’t imagine that any of the people out there who are complaining publically about how terrible the iPhone is, have actually physically held and used an iPhone.
Well, I have.

What I’m impressed with:
See your favorite websites as they were meant to be seen. None of this stripped down mobile web nonsense.

Get your stats fix!

Participate at your favorite forums and communities easily. Built in javascript allows all of the normal forum features to work great.

Blogging: Works great. I have to admit, I didn’t write this from the iPhone. I’m not that good with the keyboard just yet.

- It was extremely easy to set up. It easily synced with my macbook, and set up all of my pop email accounts, contacts, calendar, music, podcasts, and videos.
What I’d like to see soon:
- A text editor like BBedit
- An FTP client, like Interarchy
- An ultra portable keyboard (I’m talking super small here, paper thin, roll-up, bluetooth)
- I may be asking way too much with this one, but I’d also like to have an SSH client
The Verdict:
You can acomplish the same tasks with other phones, but the iPhone’s user interface simply blows every other phone out of the water.
Definitely worth the money. Especially considering the monthly data service fee is $20 less than many other smart phones offered by AT&T. That $20 over a 24 month contract ends up costing just under $500 (the price of the iPhone). Add that $500 to the $300, $200, or even free Palm Treo or Blackberry, and those phones end up costing more than the iPhone in the long run.
