Google on AOL Deal

There have been a lot of rumors flying about the Google AOL deal where Google invested 1 Billion for 5% of AOL’s Stock. Some have said that Google would give preferential treatment to AOL, placing their ads above other ads. Some have said that Google would allow AOL to have Gaudy graphic ads on the Google Home and Search pages. I have chosen not to even post about any of them, an I’m glad because they have all been false.

Today Marissa Mayer, Vice President of Search Products & User Experience for Google made an official statement on the Google Blog denying all of those rumors.

This is very refreshing to hear since one of the things that makes Google great is its simplicity. According to Mayer, “There will be no banner ads on the Google homepage or web search results pages. There will not be crazy, flashy, graphical doodads flying and popping up all over the Google site. Ever.”
