Google Now Supports NOODP Tag

Google announced this morning that they have added support for the new NOODP tag:

<META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOODP">

The version below is specifically for Googlebot:
<META NAME="GOOGLEBOT" CONTENT="NOODP">

The NOODP tag ,which was implemented by MSN first, directs Googlebot and other search engines who support the tag, not to use Open Directory Project, or ODP information for the page’s description in the SERPs.

This is very good news many site owners who feel that their traffic was seriously hindered by the use of the ODP titles and descriptions in the SERPs.

Note: Changes are not immediate after adding the new NOODP tag. Changes will take effect the next time Googlebot or any other supporting search engine’s spider visits.
