Welcome. My name is Badi Jones. (Pronounced like Body), and I have been making websites since 1997.
I didn’t realize that I could make money online until around 2004 when I started working for my current employer, who owns several very successful affiliate websites. That was the year I decided to make my first affiliate website. At the time, I didn’t really know much about SEO (other than the really horrible stuff that people did in the late 90s and early 2000s), but I knew that I needed to learn if I was going to get any visitors to my new site.
I started lurking at a few SEO forums, learned the basics, and applied those things to my site. I think it took around 5 months before I made my first affiliate sale on the site. Earnings and traffic increased very slowly, but steadily, and after about a year, the site was making over $100/ week.
It was around this time (2005) when I decided to start SEOlogs.com. It was basically a “log” of all of the interesting things I was learning about Search Engine Optimization and Marketing.
Since then, I’ve created many more websites, and have experimented with other methods of monetization, like contextual ads (like Google Adsense), other affiliate and referral programs, and also direct ad sales.
At this point, I can definitely say I’m making a great full time salary from my websites, but as I mentioned before, I do still have a day job. There are a couple of reasons for that. First, I love it, and second, I’m not quite ready to take the leap of going out on my own quite yet.
Most of my time these days is spent running HowtoStartaBlog.org, a site that focuses mainly on WordPress sites, but also features articles about SEO from time to time.
