Google Gives Peek at Classified Ad Service

The rumors are flying about a new product from Google, called “Google Base”. Many are speculating that it is some kind of online classified site that will be an eBay killer.

Google released this statement today on their blog today titled “Rumor of the Day“, suggesting that the media are blowing things out of proportion.

You may have seen stories today reporting on a new product that we’re testing, and speculating about our plans. Here’s what’s really going on. We are testing a new way for content owners to submit their content to Google, which we hope will complement existing methods such as our web crawl and Google Sitemaps. We think it’s an exciting product, and we’ll let you know when there’s more news.

They say that it is a “new way for content owners to submit their content“, and compare it to their “web crawl” and “Google Sitemaps“.

Could this be another SEO tool? Now I’m even more curious than before.
