Million Dollar Home Page Down

I’m sure many of you have already heard about the www.milliondollarhomepage.com. If not. it is a site started last a few weeks ago by a student in the UK called Alex Tew. He’s selling pixels on the home page of his website for $1 each with a minimum purchase of 100 pixels.
I know what you are thinking. “Why couldn’t I have come up with that idea?”
Don’t worry. We are all thinking the same thing.
Reason for this post is that the site seem to be down at the moment.

This doesn’t say much for sitelutions.com. The host that the site resides on. I know that this site is extremely popular right now. It’s ranked around number 800 in Alexa. Still, I think it looks pretty bad for the host.
Well, Im sure Alex won’t have a problem finding another host with the $200,000 + he’s made so far.
On a more SEO related note, milliondollarhomepage.com is already listed in dmoz and the Google directory. Is that really fair to the poor site owners who have to wait up to 3 years ot get in? Really now. Is it?
I submitted my site about 4 months ago. No word yet. I’m not holding my breath though.

My eyes!!!! If anyone can stand to look at that blinding green grid, you might sell some pixels. I think you missed the boat on this one though.

My hat goes off to Alex Tew, he certainly found a unique idea to sell ad space. I actually took his idea one step further… selling ad space by the BYTE! There are so many “pixel pushers” out there now that I needed to put a spin on the pixel advertising concept. Check out http://www.buckabyte.com

Buckabyte,
Not a bad idea. Not bad at all. Ill be interested to see how things go.

Though it is quite an old idea, we have lots of example in our country Lithuania. The biggest problem of these copies – no PR. What is more, PR is impossible, because no one cares about ideas, which where already implemented and had their days

created a hybrid between the million dollar homepage and that guy on eBay who auctioned off his forehead: http://www.isellbody.com/

I believe that Alex’s site still generates some indirect value for advertisers at least by improving their visibility in search engines. It has a PageRank of 7 and many still continue to add links to it (by the way, this article has just added one link). So, getting the link from website with such a high PageRank for as low as 1$ it is clearly a reasonable investment. Good luck to all the copycats
